MAP RUN Challenge the Shield is a new and exciting running and navigation challenge for all abilities at the Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre. Add adventure to your visits to the Georgian Nordic trails by running, trekking, or hiking to checkpoints amongst the iconic windswept pines, pristine lakes and granite rock barrens. Choose your own adventure with the aid of a map and a smart phone GPS app. The more checkpoints you get over the season the more chances you have of winning Challenge the Shield prizes.
2026 MAP RUN Challenge the Shield (40 checkpoints, APR 01 - SEP 30)
Our 2026 MAP RUN Challenge the Shield launches on September 1st. You can do all or part of the MAP RUN 40 checkpoint challenges as many times as you like during the two months as long as you do the MAP RUN challenge in a group of two or more people. All participants that successfully navigate to all 40 checkpoints will be eligible for our draw prize of a free entry to a 2027 Challenge the Shield race! Step 1: Buy a trail pass (and optional donation to Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre) You must have a Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre (GNOAC) or Get Outdoors Parry Sound (GOPS) day pass or annual pass to participate. Buy a GNOAC or GOPS pass online. MAP RUN Challenge the Shield is FREE! but please consider a donation to the Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre Future Fund. Step 2: Install GPS app software on your smart phone Install the MapRun app (version 7 or later required) on your smart phone. The latest version of MapRun is available in the Play Store and App Store. The app shows your location at all times (so you always know where you are) during the checkpoint challenges. Step 3: Download the PDF map Download and print a PDF copy of our MAP RUN challenge map (coming in late March). Our MapRun checkpoint challenge maps do not include a legend. Download and print one here. After downloading our map please send us an email with the names and emails of your group. Step 4: Start your adventure Choose your own adventure! Once you have all the checkpoint challenge details, map, and app you can run, trek, or hike to as many checkpoints as many times as you like while the challenge is open. Choose from two start locations (Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre or on Nine Mile Lake Road at Old Maple Trail). Start the MapRun app by scanning the MapRun QR code on the map. Step 5: Start your adventure AGAIN! Continue your adventure! Run, hike, or trek as many times as you want until the end of September. Revisit the same checkpoints or navigate to new ones.
