The Brian Graham Trophy

Awarded to the Men's Long Distance North American Orienteering Champion
Thirty years ago, the North American Championships were won by Brian Graham, capping an exceptional career in which he represented Canada at many World Orienteering Championships (WOC). A passionate and talented athlete, Brian was known for his toughness and focus; his fantastic performance in the 1993 WOC Classic at Harriman NY remains one of the best ever by a North American man at a WOC.

Our hearts were broken when he finally lost his battle with cancer in 2016. In respectful memory of Brian's athletic accomplishments, as well as his admirable team leadership and friendship, a number of Brian's Team Canada teammates have commissioned a unique and beautiful trophy, to be awarded to the NAOC Men's Long winner - The Brian Graham Trophy. The trophy was designed by orienteer Alex Bergstrom, and handcrafted out of - fittingly - tough Canadian maple. It depicts a steep hill and contour lines, and is intended as an ongoing tribute in memory of Brian's contributions to this sport, and a life well lived.
